Torri is a monasterical village founded by the Vallombrosian monks, it is filled with art and history that dates back to the Middle Ages. The abbey (1069), the church (mid XII century), the Bishops’ Palace Square (XIV century), and the famous Cloister with its three rows of arches that depict the age of their construction. One being of alternating black and white travertine with a Romanesque style, the second in brick with octagonal columns dating back to the 13th century, and the third with oak columns and capital leaves (XIV-XV century). The Borgo offers an ideal climate for young and old alike, with its picturesque countryside and unexploited nature. These elements together make it an oasis of serenity and well-being. Not to be forgotten is the fact that it is conveniently located amidst many historical places of interest such as the natural hot springs of Petriolo (25km) and a stone’ s throw from the river Merse (5km).

The Cloister of Torri
Elegant and refined, this squared courtyard has a floor of fishbone brick and three rows of arches that denote the age of construction. The first is of an alternating Romanesque black and white travertine (a material more resistant than marble). The black and white creates an impression of structural solidity. The second in brick with octagonal columns dating back to the thirteenth century, and the third with oak columns and capital leaves (XIV-XV centuries). A gracious terrace, positioned at the south, kept the monks in communication with the surrounding nature and remains unaltered to this day.

How to find us:

From Florence
From the airport take the autostrada A1 and exit at Certosa where you will immediately turn right in the direction of Siena. Continue along the superstrada and when you reach Siena without exiting, take the direction of Grosseto. Follow this road about 10km. After you pass the Esso gas station on the right, you will come upon a crossroads marked Orgia-Rosia and you will turn right there. Approximately 5km you will turn left at Torri where you will see a large cypress tree at the crossing. Staying on this cypress-lined road, continue until you come to the entrance of the village and you will find us immediately at the beginning through the medieval arches. Ring the bell and we will meet you to help unload your baggage and accompany you to park the car appropriately.
