The Hohenstein Lodge is situated on the south-western edge of the Erongo Mountains at the foot of the huge Hohenstein Massif, about 25 km north of Usakos.

Detailed description:

At Hohenstein all the bungalows and the restaurant share the same breathtaking view. To the right you will see Mount Hohenstein (2.319 meter above sea level). In front across a wide valley dotted with ancient Camel thorn trees, is Mount Kainachab (1.469 meter). A little further to the left the famous Spitzkoppe.
Having dinner inside the restaurant or outside on our spacious veranda while game comes to the water hole to drink is an experience you will never forget. During the day, birds are attracted to the water.

The area of the Hohenstein Lodge is without any doubt one of the most impressive landscapes of the country. The name of the lodge is the name of the highest mountain of the Erongo, the Hohenstein. After we bought the farm years ago we started to transfer the farm into a reserve and the local people from the Damara Land were part of the project and these local people were building the lodge under the supervision of skilled people from outside.

Description of the area:

Anyone choosing to stay longer can do day trips to Spitzkoppe and Brandberg, go on long hikes, or do game- and bird-watching. The panorama from the peak of Kainachab cannot be described - it's something that has to be experienced. Also climbing up to the Hohenstein is possible.

Sundowner drive in beautiful Landscape to the bushmen and damara paintings. Normaly you can see differnet game.

Guilded walk to the Boulder Forest located at the of a foot of a huge ravine. You will be amazed by the sizes and shapes of the granite boulders.

The Hohenstein is very famous for hiking and climbing. We have even the possibility for climbing with the rope. If you are interested please let us know.

How to find us:

From Swakopmund or from the north:

On B2 to Windhoek travel to Usakos to reach the Lodge over D 1935 from Usakos - turn left in Usakos between police and post office and drive about 25 km on the gravel road. From the gate at the D 1935 to the lodge it is only one kilo meter on a sand road.
From the north you can also travel on D 1935. From the entrance on the D 1935 to the Lodge its only 1 km on a very nice way (see our pictures).

You can also turn about 25 km before Usakos on the gravel road D 1930 to Uis and Spitzkoppe. After about 9 km drive right on the D 1927 and after about 20 km you will reach D 1935 - you have to turn right. Now you will reach the entrance of Hohenstein Lodge after 8 km.

From Windhoek via Karibib:

In Usakos turn right between post office and police and go like above straight to the Lodge.

On all these roads you can go with a usual car (even to Spitzkoppe). Hohenstein is the closest Lodge to Spitzkoppe (Bee line approx. 30 km).
